Two ways to do it. Send coin, or send your own hand. We are not particular, and we need both.
I have passed the hat before. In 1776 I passed it for paper, ink, and a press that would not stop when the news turned bad. I am passing it again for the same three things in modern dress.
What the coin does
A vague appeal earns a vague answer, so here is the accounting.
It pays for the paper. The Daily Grind and the Spill the Tea Party come out whether or not anyone sends a dollar, and they cost something on every one of those days.
It pays the prizes. Two hundred fifty dollars to a student who argues well. One thousand seven hundred seventy six dollars to the teacher whose lesson does the most good, paid at the end of the school year so it can be spent over the summer.
It buys the coffee. Common Grounds sits strangers who disagree at the same table. A table goes easier when the host can cover the first round.
It pays the printer. Plainly: it pays for the hours a living man spends setting this paper. Every dollar is one more hour spent recruiting the living and one fewer spent keeping the lights on.

Monthly if you can. A press is a standing thing, and a standing thing is easier to keep than to raise twice.

Money buys hours. You already have hours. Every one of these is open today, and every one of them is worth more to us than the coin.
Give nothing and read us anyway
The paper is free and stays free. That was never the part we were selling.
